Mission

Joined by representatives of St Margaret’s, we completed both the initial phase of the Scottish Episcopal Church Mission 21 initiative in 2000 and, in 2006, a follow-up Continuing Congregational Development (CCD) programme. Since then, we have been looking together at ways of bringing fresh ideas to our relationship. Through a series of Way-Ahead discussions we have identified initiatives to take forward jointly. Although not intentional, our decisions and actions from these discussions are in line with some of the requirements of “Casting the Net”.

Casting the Net is a Diocesan initiative, launched on Pentecost, 31 May 2009, designed to help us grow as congregations strong in faith and attractive to people seeking answers to deep and spiritual questions. It is a programme of Mission and Growth, using the “Nine general characteristics (marks) of a healthy mission-shaped church” as a framework.

Casting the Net asks each congregation to undertake a simple strategic planning process. We have assessed and identified which of the nine marks we could respond to and plan to take them forward as part of our Way–Ahead initiatives.

Both churches, lay and clergy, work ecumenically with the other churches in Rosyth and we are conscious of the need to develop a higher profile in the community. For the past few years we have organised an outdoors ecumenical informal Carol Sing in Rosyth and we have plans to involve the wider community in our Sunday@Six worship. We have also joined with the other churches in Rosyth in open-air events on Palm Sunday and Good Friday.

We are actively seeking to partner with other organisations in community activities, and we hope that our building can become a focus point within the local area for those seeking assistance in a number of different ways.

We are developing links with those in the community who are unable to come to church for a variety of reasons, and we hope to make the church a welcoming place for all.
